Me and Clare Beaton

I adore Clare Beaton's work from a long time. She made a beautiful felt illustration for Barefoot Book PublisherShe influence me a lot. To see her artwork go to http://www.clarebeaton.com/

And yesterday i decided to send her an e-mail, and....oowwwwh she replied :)

Dear Dini,
Thank you for sharing your work with me.
I am amazed at your output! Such a lot of work, I particularly like the illustrations with the stitched borders, the fox, dog etc.Personally I prefer the simpler pictures.
I am doing two more board books and also some more activity books which are not illustrated in felt. I like working in differentways. My work for the greetings card company Roger la Borde is great to do too.
Good luck with everything!
Clare
Then we discuss a bit about how people often disappointed, because they think that they will get real felt book instead printed book, she told me this..

Dear Dini,
When I stitched my first book people who wanted to buy it from the publishers thought they were getting a felt book. As if I would be sewing 1000s of books!
I don't think people who haven't any experience of craft and hand stitching have any idea of the time and effort involved. However having said that many people DO appreciate the work which makes it all worth while. As the books have a long life and therefore are studied by the readers every detail is noticed.
I get many emails from these people which is great! When you work alone it's nice to receive feed back like that I

Owwh Clare.. thank you so much for your appreciation :) and also for your kidness

How To Make a Felt Illustration?

Today I will share how to make a felt illustration..

this is how i process my works...

First, Cut out the remaining pieces. You can pin or trace (with pencil on the wrong side) pieces onto felt and cut out. Using either a pencil or pen, but remember to do it on the wrong side, and carefully clean up the ink.  Then I will place every elements onto the fabric (background)

for simple step/easier technique you can click here

Attach your felt pieces to the fabric using a multi-purpose glue or fabric glue. whipstitch in the coordinating thread color, according to the finished photo. You can use icon stitch or roll stitch, make sure that you do your stitches small and as even as possible.

But then, my editor give me some suggestions (a lot of suggestions :D) that forces me remove some items.
Oh nooo...!!! i said :D
but you will see, she got the point.

for the final touch i give some embelishment using buttons

and Violaaa... (see the difference??)
this is the final result of the illustration.. and she feels really satisfied :D alhamdulillah ^^

Hopefully you will be able to find this book on book store soon ^^

My Sixth Craft Book #6: EDUTOYS

So happy.. Really Exicted ^^ Finally..

Kabar baiknya senantiasa kami tunggu selalu. ;)
Fachmy CasofaTiga Serangkai, Indonesia
Dan Insyaallah buku Edutoys ini sudah naik cetak dan akan beredar di toko buku Bulan Maret 2013. Buku ini akan memaparkan pengalaman capungmungil secara ekslusif
  • SUCCES STORY PEMILIK BISNIS
  • KIAT MEMBANGUN BRAND
  • ANALISIS BISNIS
  • CARA MEMASARKAN
  • 10 KREASI UNIK + TUTORIAL + POLA

Tenik Hartono, ibu 1 anak, Chief Community Officer & Pemimpin Redaksi Ayahbunda.

Semoga buku ini membawa banyak manfaat bagi siapapun yang ingin berbisnis edutoys dari rumah, tanpa harus meninggalkan keluarga ^^

Sewing Travel Case

I had never have a sewing travel case, so i decided to made one.

It just another sewing experiment. I made a sewing tools pouch for my self, just in chase if i need to sew while travels. This pouch has lots of handy compartments to keep sewing tools organized as i travel. It was full of fun and easy projects.. So now i can take all my scissor, thread, needles, button etc.

well.. i am not really happy with the result, but it's okay for my first try.

The Three Little Pigs: An Architectural Tale (Book Review)

The Three Little Pigs: An Architectural Tale
by Steven Guarnaccia

In this quirky, artsy retelling of “The Three Little Pigs,” the pigs and their homes are nods to three famous architects—Frank Gehry, Phillip Johnson, and Frank Lloyd Wright—and their signature homes.

Moral of the Story (http://architecture.about.com/)
Just as in the original fairy tale, Guarnaccia's pigs must outwit a big bad wolf who keeps huffing, puffing, and blowing their houses down. First the wolf demolishes a house made of scraps (the Gehry House by Frank Gehry), and then the wolf destroys a house made of glass (the Glass House by Philip Johnson). Finally the architect-pigs find safety in a house made of stone and concrete (Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright). Now you might wonder how it is that Fallingwater, with its legendary structural problems, proved stronger than houses by Gehry and Johnson. Is the author telling us that Wright's vision is more enduring? That modernist architecture is flawed? Never mind. Guarnaccia's Three Little Pigs is meant for children. A search for deeper meanings would spoil the fun.

And this book is fun! Guarnaccia's cartoon-like illustrations are engaging and the antics of the three pigs are amusing and inspiring. The moral - as in the original fairy tale - is that bullies can be defeated if you are clever and hardworking.

The Curious Garden (Book Review)

Title: The Curious Garden
Author & Illustrator: Peter Brown
Publisher: Little Brown and Company
Publication Date: 2009
Format: Hardback, 40 pages
Genre: Ghildren's book, Picture book

Book Description
April 1, 2009 P and up
One boy's quest for a greener world... one garden at a time.

While out exploring one day, a little boy named Liam discovers a struggling garden and decides to take care of it. As time passes, the garden spreads throughout the dark, gray city, transforming it into a lush, green world.

This is an enchanting tale with environmental themes and breathtaking illustrations that become more vibrant as the garden blooms. Red-headed Liam can also be spotted on every page, adding a clever seek-and-find element to this captivating picture book.
http://www.amazon.com/

The book is about a young boy named Liam, who one day goes wandering through his very industrial city. A city without trees, or flowers, or any sorts of growing things. As Liam is exploring he comes across some railroad tracks that have long been abandoned and notices a small patch of wild flowers growing there. The wild flowers are dying, and in obvious need of some TLC so Liam comes back the next day and tends to them. He comes back everyday after that and through his careful attention and ministrations his little garden begins to grow healthier and larger. Very soon his garden has gotten a mind of its own. Once again, no spoilers for the end! Read it and see what happens.

Brown includes a note at the end of the story stating that the inspiration for this story was the High Line Park in Manhattan.  Once an abandoned elevated train track, it's now a city park with community programs and gardens.
